Notice what is already there

Flooring, fitted cabinetry and window frames are already part of your palette. Start with these fixed elements. Noticing warm or cool undertones can prevent an uncomfortable mismatch later.

Start with a small palette

Choose a base tone, a supporting tone and an accent. This is a starting point, not a rigid rule. Texture and different levels of sheen can add depth even within a narrow family of colours.

Use generous samples

Try paint over a larger area instead of relying on a tiny swatch. Look at it at different times of day and under the lamps you will use. Make the final decision alongside important textiles, including curtains and upholstery.
